This coming Monday, June 20, the international beauty products company Davines has organized a worthy event in the name of beauty and charity. Called Sustainable Beauty Day, it invites salons to offer donation-only hair cuts in order to help an African community. Participating salons donate 100% of the proceeds to Sustainabilitree, whose latest project will benefit an impoverished province in Mozambique, Africa, through the planting of fruit trees that the locals can harvest, sell and eat. The goal is to raise $25,000, and salons including The Parlour Brooklyn in Greenpoint (347-294-0444) and Slope Suds in Park Slope (718-788-7837) are asking for a suggest donation of $25 per cut (at least). (Contact each to make an appointment stat–they’re sure to be busy on Monday.) It’s pretty much a win-win–you get your hair ready for the summer AND help people in need. If only more selfish acts were this selfless.
