Jim Herbert, onetime director of R.E.M. videos (and Michael Stipes’ art professor), and now a Brooklyn-based artist whose large-scale paintings often depict sexual scenarios, is opening English Kills’ season with a show of new work. His source material this time around: pornographic photos from internet searches on his Blackberry, painted with gloves in colorful, expressionistic strokes. The opening is Saturday night from 6 to 9pm; it runs through Oct. 16.
