Although Brooklyn was largely spared the wrath of Hurricane Irene, many of our upstate neighbors were not so lucky. Two New Paltz farmers who are longtime fixtures at the Grand Army Plaza farmers’ market, Ray Bradley of Bradley Farm and Kira Kinney of Evolutionary Organics, were hit especially hard by unrelenting floodwaters that destroyed almost all of their crops. Their friends and fellow GAP vendors, Alex and Stephanie Villani of Blue Moon Fish, have teamed up with loyal customers and local business to throw an all-day benefit at Southpaw to help Bradley and Kinney recover some of their extensive storm-related losses. The Blue Moon Bash runs from 3-8pm on Sunday, and will feature Blue Moon clam chowder, lots of live music, food donated by an impressive array of restaurants (including Palo Santo, The Vanderbilt, and Court Street Grocers) and beer supplied by Brooklyn Brewery. Tickets are $20 and 100% of the proceeds raised will go to help Bradley and Kinney get back on their feet so that they can continue supplying Brooklynites with delicious produce for many years to come.
