It’s Valentine’s Day, and you might be looking for somewhere to take your one and only for something sweet–or, to get yourself a treat. As we mentioned last week, One Girl Cookies opened its doors in DUMBO, and it’s just one of a few places in the neighborhood to get your sugar on. In fact, all of DUMBO must be on a continual sugar high, considering the concentration of sweet shops of all kinds in the neighborhood.
Fans of cupcakes and whoopie pies should definitely check out the new One Girl, at the corner of Main and Water Streets. If you’re more the hardcore chocoholic type, the famous Jacques Torres has some digs right down Water Street. You can pretty much find something for any fan of the cocoa bean in there, and if it’s cold out, they’ve got fantastic hot chocolate. Right across the street you’ll find Almondine Bakery, which serves up fancy cakes and cookies as well as more substantial things like sandwiches. If you want to walk a few blocks, you can fulfill some childlike glee over at Dewey’s Candy on Front Street near Pearl Street. They’ll have some Valentine’s goodness, but they’ve got a year-round supply of regular candy, like chocolates and a cabinet full of jelly beans.
If you and your beloved feel the need to get a little exercise after all this sugar, you can always take a walk (hand-in-hand, of course, it is Valentine’s Day) through Brooklyn Bridge Park. Carousel ride, anyone?
