Shhhh, don’t tell anyone because we don’t want it to change, but Halyards, the laid-back bar on 3rd Avenue in Gowanus, is pretty much the perfect neighborhood watering hole. Equipped with a pool table, a roster of great beers and cocktails, a menu of meat pies and cheese toasties, and the friendliest bartenders around, this place draws a nice, never-annoying crowd of locals just looking to hang out. This Saturday night, the bar turns one and is celebrating with an anniversary bash starting at 8pm. There will be pool, darts, jenga, food, music, free beer, and fun, so be sure to stop by and raise a glass to a successful first year of business for a pub we hope sticks around forever. Academy Award aficionados should also take note that there will be an Oscars Fondue Party at the bar on February 26 and reserve a spot soon.
