This Saturday, don’t miss the opening reception for The Box That Rocks: 30 Years of Video Music Box and the Rise of Hip Hop Music & Culture at MoCADA. Back in ’83 Ralph McDaniels premiered Video Music Box, a television program that paved the way for future video shows, as well as hip-hop music in popular culture. The first TV show to focus on hip-hop videos, it was even voted one of the Top 10 Greatest Hip Hop TV Moments by VH1 in 2003. The exhibition celebrates the success and impact Video Music Box had on hip-hop, and will run through May 28th. It’ll feature photography, painting, mixed media, video installation and interactive digital art, by participants including Fab 5 Freddy, Bobbito Garcia, and Daniel Amazu Wasser.
