After the messy break-up of The Sex Pistols, lead singer Johnny Rotten dropped the “Rotten” and returned to his birth name of John Lydon, snatched up ex-Clash guitarist Keith Levene and started a band that pushed the boundaries of rock music even more than the Pistols. That band was Public Image Limited (also known as PiL). Blending disco beats, dub-reggae bass lines, noise guitar, synths and Lydon’s bizarre signature screeching, the band gave birth to a style of music that is often referred to as “post punk.” 30 years later Lydon has put a version of the band back together, released a new record and is bringing the band to Brooklyn this Tuesday. Catch them as they hit Music Hall of Williamsburg at 9pm; tickets are on sale here!–JH
