Checkin’ Out Chekov

It’s easy to feel priced out of some of the cultural events New York has to offer, but seeing top-notch theater doesn’t have to involve corporate connections or ticket prices comparable to the rent you paid in college. This weekend, the New York Classical Theater will continue its well-reviewed run of The Seagull in Prospect Park. The performance is totally free, and you don’t even need to reserve a spot in advance–just enter the park at Parkside and Ocean avenues and walk over to the Rustic Shelter by the lake. In a new twist on Chekov’s classic, the audience moves with the actors to different areas within the park as the drama unfolds. So, braving Times Square at rush hour in 90-degree heat for an overpriced show or strolling through Prospect Park on a summer evening? The choice is yours, but it seems like a no-brainer to us.
