Parquet Courts
Wednesday, October 2
8:30pm
Tickets $12
Music Hall of Williamsburg (66 N. 6 St.)
Brooklyn’s own Parquet Courts put out a great debut album, “Light Out Gold,” in 2012, that mixed post-punk affection, tightly-packed percussion and sharp-tongued lyrics. Tonight they’re celebrating the release of a their new, five-song EP, “Tally All The Things That You Broke,” with a show at Music Hall of Williamsburg.
Phoenix, with the Vaccines
Wednesday, October 2
8pm
Tickets $50
Barclays Center (620 Atlantic Ave.)
Phoenix was last on my radar in 2009, when the group’s acclaimed album “Wolfgang Amadeus,” was on heavy rotation and the French band worked the festival circuit. I caught them at Austin City Limits that year, which is to say that the crowd at their set was so deep that I barely saw them on the jumbotron on my way to Torchy’s taco stand. Phoenix has a dedicated fan base that will rock in full force at Barclays tonight, with English rock outfit the Vaccines.
Oneida
Friday, October 4
8:30pm
Tickets $12
Glasslands (289 Kent Ave.)
Brooklyn band Oneida has been bending, defying and outright ignoring the term “genre” altogether for over a decade. Psych, drone, electro, noise, minimalism, none or all of the above. Persistent in structural flexibility, Oneida is one of the most consistent and bold acts in our borough. Catch the band tonight and Glasslands.
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
Friday, October 4
730:pm
Tickets $30
Warsaw (261 Driggs Ave.)
Here’s the deal. It’s been a while since I’ve seen a show at Warsaw. I love this venue, and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club‘s dark, brooding breed of rock suits this weathered stage. And this show’s on a Friday, which produces one of those perfect storms that makes going to shows in Brooklyn so fun. BRMC has been active since the mid-nineties, and their recent album “Specter at the Feast” feels as rooted in that decade as their earlier material.Don’t forget to grab some pierogies.
