An oceanfront farm dinner


Heat got you cranky? I was almost embarrassed to get back on the R train today after yesterday’s infantile display of foot stomping and audible sighing perpetrated by me in response to the oppressive heat and frustrating, now-standard delay. But the perfect antidote just might be a lovely mid-week summer dinner under the stars at Thursday night’s Hooked on Edgemere Farm Dinner near the beach in Far Rockaway. Sure, it might add a few minutes to your evening commute, but getting away from the hustle and bustle will be worth it, especially if it means you get to chow down on a delicious multi-course menu of local, seasonal fare prepared by chef Kevin Speltz of Red Hook’s Grindhaus and baking master Jessie Sheehan. Plus if you’re one of the many people who harbors a fantasy about moving to the Rockaways full time, consider this a baby step. Dinner starts at 6pm and costs $50 per person.
