Classic Christmas flicks and a whiskey tasting

Not to sound like a grinch, but I think we can all agree that there are things about the holiday season that get old quick: The piles of catalogs arriving in the mail, the crowds, Santacon, the endless loop of that one Mariah Carey song everywhere you go. One thing that I never tire of, however, is watching the same Christmas movies every year, and it turns out I’m not alone. In fact, there’s enough of a demand to revisit It’s A Wonderful Life that IFC is dedicating at least one of their theaters to multiple screenings all month long, starting this Friday, with many of the 7pm screenings introduced by Donna Reed’s daughter. Itching to see other classics? Just check out the list of holiday flicks like Christmas Vacation, Elf, Home Alone, Love Actually, The Muppet Christmas Carol, and a few other timeworn titles that the Roxy Cinema in Tribeca has teamed up with Time Out to screen this month, for the price of a $15 ticket. There will be food and drink available for purchase as well, and you can sign up to attend here.

For a different kind of evening, take an after-work stroll over to the Old Stone House in Park Slope for a special Friday night whiskey tasting starting a 7pm. Food and drink expert Tonya Hopkins will be on hand to teach you how to enjoy a selection of American whiskeys collected from all over the country, which will be accompanied by an array of cheese and bread. Tickets are $45 each and can be purchased here.
