Gospel Sundays at Butterfunk with Top Chef Chris Scott

For over a year, musician and DJ Eli “Paperboy” Reed has been spinning Gospel 45s nearly every Sunday at the Windsor Terrace restaurant Butterfunk, a natural complement to the soul food coming out of the kitchen. It’s both the only place in the city that provides an exclusive forum for this music, and currently the only restaurant in town whose chef is one of the final four contestants on the current season of Top Chef. Since Chris Scott has appeared on the show, the lines have understandably gotten long, and the wait time has increased to an average, some nights, to two hours. Our recommendation: just arrive before doors open at 5:30 on Sunday, grab a hot drink from Brooklyn Commune next door (it closes at 5) and catch up with your friend. The music, the lemonade buttermilk fried chicken and the mac and cheese, which has beaten every other rendition at the past two Mac and Cheese smackdowns, will all be worth it.
