This week marks the return of the beloved Brooklyn Book Festival, which means that on Sunday, Sept. 16, almost 300 authors from near and far will be participating in an extensive schedule of talks, readings, panels, signings, and other programming between 10am-6pm at various venues in Downtown Brooklyn and nearby. (Saturday’s lineup is dedicated to children’s books.) As always, this year’s slate is incredibly impressive, and includes big names from all walks of the literary world like Joyce Carol Oates, Martin Amis, Jennifer Egan, Melissa Clark, Toure, Masha Gessen, Omar Epps, Tayari Jones, David Levithan, Ingrid and Isabella Rossellini, Jacqueline Woodson, Rob Sheffield, and A.O. Scott. The best part is that all of the events are free and entry is on a first come, first served basis, so there’s no need to break the bank and you can’t be shut out because you missed an hour-long sign-up window months ago. Get a jump start on your fall reading list and get inspired by this diverse, accomplished group of writers, and then take one of your new books to a cozy restaurant bar somewhere for a solo early dinner and glass of wine—it’s an ideal way to ease back into the work week.
