Yeah, I know that summer is technically over, but as long as it feels like a steam room, I’m not ready to call what’s happening outside fall. Last week, some friends invited me to see St. Lucia with them at the new rooftop concert venue at Pier 17 South Street Seaport and thanks to the combo of the show, the weather, the company, and the incredible view of the Brooklyn Bridge, it turned out to be one of my favorite nights of the summer. Maybe you don’t want to pay the insane markup to see the sold out Diana Ross show there this Sunday night (although I certainly wouldn’t blame you if you did), but you can still catch great live music elsewhere on Sunday for a much more palatable price. For example, Forest Hills Stadium is hosting Day 2 of The National Presents: There’s No Leaving New York, a mini music festival headlined by The National, and featuring Sunday sets from Cat Power, Future Islands, U.S. Girls, and Bully. Tickets start at $80, and the show starts at 3:30. If a trip out to Queens sounds too onerous, stay local and see Justin Townes Earle at Industry City for just $25 starting at 5pm.
