Sunday in Brooklyn: A Modern Take on a Classic Holiday Treat and One Last Gospel Sunday

By

If the thought has ever crossed your mind that The Nutcracker might benefit from trading in some plies for more popping and locking, you should head to Kings Theatre on Sunday evening for The Hip Hop Nutcracker, which is in NYC at the tail end of a nationwide tour that started in the beginning of November. The high energy show infuses Tchaikovsky’s traditional score with a modern vibe by adding elements like hip hop choreography, a dozen all-star dancers, an on-stage DJ, and an electric violinist. Definitely sounds like a fun twist on an old fave, and there are still some $70 tickets available for the 6pm show but you should act fast.

Also on Sunday, Butterfunk Kitchen will hold its last Gospel Sunday before it closes its doors at the end of the year. They plan to reopen in Connecticut, but if you don’t imagine yourself traveling that far north for their Southern food, make a point to eat here before they close. We wrote about the experience of their Sunday dinners earlier this year, be sure to catch the last one if you don’t want to miss out.
