The Golden Fest, Balkan music and dance party returns to Grand Prospect Hall

By

Warm up this weekend at the 2019 Zlatne Uste Golden Festival, now in its 34th year of showcasing dozens of varieties of live Balkan, Roma, and Greek music and dancing starting Friday and running till the wee hours on Sunday. I’ve somehow never been, but this event has always intrigued me, if only because I can never turn down a massive dance party, and this one runs until 2am! Add some mezze and other Mediterranean food and drink to the mix and I’m 100% in! As in years past, the festival will also feature a Balkan market selling CDs from the performers, clothes, jewelry, and more. Tickets for either Saturday or Sunday are $30 apiece, and you can see the full schedule of 60+ acts performing on five stages here. If you need any more incentive to check this unique celebration of the diverse and robust cultural influence of the Balkan peninsula, you should know that it’s all going down at The Grand Prospect Hall, the South Slope institution whose TV ads are the stuff of legend.
