A not so Tuff Tuesday

By

Could Tuesday be the new Thursday? It seems that way, at least this Tuesday, Jan. 8 thanks to coinciding festivals like APAP, a citywide showcase for performing arts venues to book talent for the coming year. You can catch a few of these special performances at places like Barbes, which is hosting back-to-back shows first with the ska-country mashup Slippery Fish at 7:30pm followed by Slavic Soul Party at 10pm ($10 recommended donation). That’s also when the free Tuff Tuesdays reggae dance party begins across town at Bembe in Williamsburg, where you’ll have a bit more room to spread out on the dance floor. And if modern, musical theater and opera is your thing, check out the Prototype Festival, which includes programming like the premiere of “Pancho Villa at a Safe Distance,” a chamber opera about the Mexican revolutionary at BRIC and “The Infinite Hotel” at Irondale Center, where each night the audience acts as extras in a feature-length rock film. Both performances begin at 7:30pm and tickets run $30-$75 or less, with a Prototype pass.
